In 1927 our local Post 444 of the American Legion, with the help of the community, erected a monument to honor our veterans of World War I, then known as the Great War. The monument is placed just south of our New Knoxville Town Hall, between the Town Hall and the Post Office. This monument lists names of the brave soldiers of our community who served in that war. The two names of those who lost their lives, Ralph Hineman and Otto B. Vordermark, are marked with stars preceding their names.
