Besides his interest in helping people with their medical problems, Dr. Fledderjohann had some interest in the workings of things mechanical. In June of 1913 he was granted a United States patent on the design of a twin cylinder reversible spiral turbine engine. In the same year a very prolific inventor by the name of Nikola Tesla of New York was granted a patent on another type of turbine. Doc’s idea was probably overshadowed by this other design. We do not know if anyone ever built an engine on Fledderjohann’s design, but just having it patented was quite an accomplishment.
